NUMB FINGERS
Cellist and composer Justin Wright travels to Svalbard, an archipelago close to the North Pole, to serenade the dying glaciers with the most northerly outdoor cello performances in history.
Proposal:
Numb Fingers is a visual album that can be distributed both as a short film and as an audio-only EP/album of solo cello tracks and field-recording interludes. In an era of media overload and short attention spans, this project offers an opportunity to explore another way of connecting music to an audience. The short film is currently making its film festival circuit, premiering at an outdoor winter cinema festival projected onto a giant screen made of snow, and now screening at the Oscar-qualifying Short Short Film Festival in Tokyo, Asia’s biggest short film festival.
I am seeking a label to handle the distribution of the album and help in its publicity. The film will end its festival circuit in fall 2026, which would be a great time for a public release of the whole project.
Audio-only album
Here is a proposed track sequence for the audio album, alternating between field recordings and musical tracks.
The audio is unmastered, and minor edits can easily be made.
Audio files can be downloaded here.
All musical tracks are solo cello aside from “Thinking about Terns”, an optional track with overdubbed layers.
